Gaza health:6,000 people who have had their legs or limbs amputated urgently need rehabilitation programs

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip revealed on Tuesday that approximately 6,000 victims who suffered amputations or other limb injuries during the Israeli war on the Strip require urgent, long-term rehabilitation programs. The Ministry called for enabling these victims and others to travel abroad for treatment, given the shortage of medical resources and assistive devices available locally, which exacerbates their suffering.

In a statement, the Ministry indicated that children constitute 25% of the total number of amputations, while women represent 12.7%. It emphasized that these alarming figures reflect the profound human suffering endured by thousands of wounded individuals and their families, highlighting the urgent need for rehabilitation services and psychosocial support, particularly for children who have found themselves facing permanent disabilities at a young age.

The Ministry urged all international and humanitarian organizations and institutions working in the health and rehabilitation sectors to intensify their efforts and expand their urgent interventions to meet the needs of the wounded and ensure they receive the necessary care, commensurate with the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
