The Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Barsh, revealed an unprecedented spread of anemia among children in the Gaza Strip, announcing that the infection rate has reached 82% among children under one year old. This alarming indicator reflects the extent of the health deterioration caused by the ongoing siege and war.
He emphasized that the occupation is attempting to engineer genocide, both in terms of health and the “eradication of the Palestinian population,” stressing that the occupation wants a generation born with deformities.
Al-Barsh explained that this sharp increase in infection rates poses a grave threat to the lives and development of children, especially given the occupation’s continued prevention of the entry of essential medicines designated for childhood programs.
He indicated that this deprivation threatens the emergence of a generation suffering from serious health deformities, warning that 156 cases of deformities have already been recorded since the outbreak of the war.
He also noted that the sector is witnessing a significant 40% decrease in the number of births compared to pre-war levels, reflecting the direct impact of the catastrophic living and health conditions, and the extent of the danger facing mothers and children amidst the collapse of the health system.
