Palestinian prisoners: Unending suffering and unimaginable violations

The situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons is entering a critical phase, the outlines of which are becoming clearer with the increasing number of testimonies from released prisoners and their families, as well as documentation by local and international human rights organizations.

These testimonies reflect a complex humanitarian reality marked by escalating systematic violations and ill-treatment, and a deterioration in living and health conditions within the prisons. They also highlight the daily challenges faced by prisoners, ranging from restrictions on communication with the outside world to medical neglect, cruel treatment, grave violations, and ultimately, rape and murder.

According to documented testimonies from Palestinian prisoners recently released from Israeli prisons, a systematic pattern of sexual torture, including rape, stripping detainees naked, forcibly documenting these acts through photography, the use of sex toys, and even attacks by dogs, has become commonplace within the prisons.

One of the most prominent cases is that of a 42-year-old woman who was raped four times by Israeli soldiers, subjected to verbal abuse, photographed naked, and beaten all over her body, according to her testimony to specialized human rights centers.

Palestinian human rights centers consider these testimonies not isolated incidents, but rather part of what can be described as a “systematic policy linked to genocide” perpetrated against Palestinians. UN human rights commissioners have called for independent international investigations into these violations.
