Gaza Health Ministry: Israel allows entry of luxury goods but bans medicines

The Director-General of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Mounir Al-Bursh, said on Wednesday that Israel allows recreational goods to enter the Strip, and prevents basic medicines and medical supplies from hospitals that are still suffering from the repercussions of the genocide war. In previous statements, the Government Media Office in Gaza said that Israel deprives Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip of 350 essential foodstuffs needed by children, the sick, the wounded and the vulnerable groups, while allowing the entry of goods of low nutritional value. Al-Bursh said in a statement to Anadolu Agency, that Israel “floods the Gaza Strip with secondary merchandise, recreational materials and modern phones,” while “closing the gates to medicines, intravenous solutions, antibiotics, dialysis devices and surgical supplies.” He added that this reality “represents an attempt to beautify the siege with a deceptive commercial interface”, while hospitals remain without sufficient equipment, operating rooms without equipment, medicines are distributed in limited quantities, and fuel and communications are almost non-existent. He considered that the health system in Gaza “is running in conditions that do not resemble any health system in the world, but rather a daily life-place with almost non-existent capabilities.” Regarding health degradation after the war of extermination and ceasefire, Al-Bursh said that the shortage of basic medicines is 54 percent, while 40 percent of emergency medicines are zero, and the zero deficit in medical supplies has reached 71 percent, the highest in Gaza history.
