Richard Gere calls for an end to the violence in Gaza and stresses the need to support UNRWA

American actor Richard Gere described the situation in the Gaza Strip as “heartbreaking,” calling for an end to the violence and a lasting ceasefire. He emphasized the importance of continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which he said is working amidst the devastation to maintain hope among the population.

In a video message released by UNRWA on the X platform, Gere noted that “entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, families torn apart, and children growing up surrounded by fear and violence instead of love and hope.” He stressed that women and children in Gaza are paying an “unfair and unbearable” price.

Gerre explained that for decades, UNRWA has provided education, healthcare, and psychosocial support during times when people have lost everything. He described it as the “last line of defense” for the population, asserting that no other organization can replace its role in schools, clinics, or the trust it has built with the local community.
