Israel announced on Tuesday that it would suspend the operations of more than 20 humanitarian organizations, claiming they had failed to comply with new regulations in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs asserted that the organizations, which will be subject to the suspension orders effective January 1, did not meet new requirements regarding the exchange of information about staff, funding, and the nature of their field operations.
The ministry stated that the permits of approximately 25 organizations, representing about 15% of the NGOs operating in Gaza, were not renewed.
Israel accused Doctors Without Borders (MSF) of failing to clarify the roles of some of its staff members, whom it alleges have collaborated with Hamas and other armed groups. MSF is one of the largest health organizations operating in the Gaza Strip.
The list of suspended organizations also includes the Norwegian Refugee Council, CARE International, the International Rescue Committee, and branches of major charities such as Oxfam and Caritas, according to a list issued by the ministry.
