Cooking fire turns the life of a Palestinian family into a tragedy in Gaza

In the Al-Taawon camp near Yarmouk Stadium in the heart of Gaza City, the search for sustenance turned into a human tragedy when a fire broke out in the tents of displaced people lacking even the most basic necessities. Three tents were completely destroyed, and members of the Abu al-Khair family, including a child, perished. Several others, including the father, were injured and taken to intensive care in critical condition.

The fire started when people lit a fire to cook food inside the makeshift tents, as there is no gas or electricity. These tents, made of highly flammable nylon and fabric, offer no protection from the summer heat or the winter cold.

The families live in this dilapidated location, adjacent to a solid waste dump, amidst tons of garbage, having been forced to flee there because there was nowhere else to go in the Gaza Strip.
