Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, confirmed that the Gaza Strip is facing its most dire health and humanitarian situation since the start of the ongoing genocidal war, which has lasted for more than two years. He warned of the widespread outbreak of a mysterious virus affecting every household in the Strip.
In radio statements, Abu Salmiya explained that medical teams are unable to identify the nature of the virus, whether it is a more advanced strain of COVID-19 or a severe type of seasonal influenza, due to a critical shortage of laboratory tests and diagnostic equipment.
He noted that the spreading virus is characterized by unusual virulence, with an infection period of up to two weeks instead of the usual one. It is accompanied by severe symptoms including high fever, excruciating joint pain, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and even severe pneumonia.
