Palestinian Prisoner Club: The occupation legitimizes revenge against the prisoners under international complicity

The Palestinian Prisoners Club stated on Monday that the revelations made by Israeli Channel 13 regarding the Israeli Prison Service’s preparations to implement the death penalty law against Palestinian prisoners represent a prelude to a highly dangerous phase, constituting “the culmination of the ongoing extermination of prisoners.”

In a statement, the club explained that Israel is working rapidly to finalize the law, amidst “international complicity and a failure to protect thousands of prisoners.”

It emphasized that these Israeli steps are part of a policy aimed at “legitimizing revenge” against prisoners and escalating the repressive structure within prisons to an unprecedented degree, at a time when the issue of legal and international protection for Palestinian prisoners is declining.

Channel 13 reported that the Israeli Prison Service has begun preparations in recent days to implement the law, which passed its first reading in the Knesset. These preparations include establishing a dedicated execution facility, developing the necessary procedures, training selected personnel on execution methods, and drawing on the experiences of other countries.

According to the report, the new facility within the Israeli prison system will be called the “Israeli Green Corridor,” and executions will be carried out by hanging, with three guards simultaneously pressing the trigger. The report indicated that the executions will take place within 90 days of the final court ruling.

The channel quoted Israeli sources as saying that the law will initially be applied to prisoners from the elite brigades of Hamas, whom Israel accuses of participating in the October 7, 2013 attack. Later, it will be extended to prisoners whom Israel claims are convicted of carrying out attacks in the West Bank.

Days earlier, twelve UN experts urged Israel to withdraw the draft law to implement the death penalty for what it calls “terrorist acts,” asserting that Israeli military law in the occupied territories violates international law.
