Bread is no longer enough… The central kitchen closes its doors and families’ hopes fade.

The World Central Kitchen’s announcement that it will suspend all cooking operations in the Gaza Strip starting next Friday has sparked widespread concern among thousands of families who have relied on its daily meals as a near-constant source of food since the outbreak of the war.

While the figures reflect the scale of the humanitarian intervention—more than 272 million meals since November 2023—the decision raises serious questions about the future of food security in the Strip.

In this report, the Palestinian Information Center presents a picture of the situation and testimonies from families who see the suspension of operations as a direct threat to their ability to secure even the most basic food supplies.

The Government Media Office in Gaza commented on the World Central Kitchen’s (WCK) decision to suspend its services in the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement issued today, Wednesday, the office indicated that the World Central Kitchen’s decision comes in the context of severe obstacles imposed by the occupation, such as reducing the number of trucks allowed to bring in food supplies from 25 per day to only 5. He stressed that the kitchen is facing pressure to purchase raw materials from within “Israel”, after the materials used to arrive via shipments coming from Egypt, which changed the nature of the humanitarian supply and increased its cost.
