Washington Post: The aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford prepares to depart, and observers confirm it sustained severe damage

Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

American officials have confirmed that the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is preparing to leave the Middle East in the coming days, a step that will reduce American firepower in the region, coinciding with the faltering of the negotiation path with Iran.

The Washington Post quoted the officials as saying that the carrier, which houses approximately 4,500 sailors, will return to its base in Virginia after a deployment that lasted nearly ten months.

Observers believe that the carrier will return for significant repairs after sustaining severe damage that took it out of service. The US hasn’t announced this, but it announced that it suffered malfunctions and technical problems, including damage resulting from a fire in one of its facilities, in addition to other operational failures.
