Trump announces escalation with a new naval operation, and Iran confirms his decision violates the ceasefire

Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

It appears that political and military escalation around the Strait of Hormuz will dominate the scene in the region following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new naval operation. This was met with a severe Iranian warning that any intervention constitutes a violation of the ceasefire, amidst international reports revealing details of the American initiative and its repercussions.

Trump announced that his country would begin implementing what he described as the “Freedom Project” on Monday morning to liberate ship movement in the Strait of Hormuz, confirming that the operation aims to guide ships and bring them out safely for the benefit of countries and companies unrelated to the conflict, claiming that this step represents a humanitarian gesture and an expression of good faith from various parties.

He indicated that Washington has received requests from several countries to help secure the passage of their ships, claiming there are talks he described as very positive with Iran that could lead to common outcomes, while warning at the same time that any obstruction of the operation will be met with a strong response.

In contrast, the Iranian response was sharp, as the head of the National Security Committee in the Iranian parliament affirmed that any American intervention in managing the Strait of Hormuz is a breach of the ceasefire, stressing that the strait and Gulf waters cannot be managed through unilateral announcements or decisions.

Concurrently, American media reports, citing officials, revealed that Trump’s initiative relies on a coordination mechanism between countries, insurance companies, and shipping lines to regulate navigation in the strait, without yet including direct military escort by American warships.

The reports also indicated growing concerns about navigation safety, amid information about the deployment of naval mines in the area, further complicating the scene and threatening the traffic of global trade.

Economically, the American announcement quickly reflected on markets, as oil prices fell by more than 2% following Trump’s statements regarding securing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

This development comes at a time when sources spoke of an exchange of new proposals between Washington and Tehran to end the war amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts in parallel with field escalation and reciprocal statements.
