Amnesty International: The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza has been detained for 500 days

Amnesty International said on Monday that Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital and one of the most prominent voices speaking out about the devastated healthcare sector in the Gaza Strip, has been arbitrarily detained for 500 days since his arrest by Israeli authorities on December 27, 2014.

In a post on its X platform, the organization explained that Dr. Abu Safieh’s continued arbitrary detention without charge or trial, and his subjection to extremely poor treatment, reflects Israel’s systematic targeting of the healthcare sector in the Gaza Strip.

Amnesty International called on world leaders to take immediate action and pressure Israel to release Dr. Abu Safieh and all other Palestinians detained without charge or trial, whether under administrative detention or the “unlawful combatants” law.

Amnesty International reiterated its solidarity with all Palestinians arbitrarily detained.
