New York Times: The Iran war resulted in a strategic defeat for Washington and exposed the limits of its military power

The American newspaper “The New York Times” stated on Thursday that the outcomes of the war waged by the US of America against Iran exposed the limits of American military power and resulted in a strategic defeat for Washington, despite the technological and operational superiority of the US military.

Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The newspaper published an article by the American writer W.J. Hennigan, in which he affirmed that US President Donald Trump early on announced the approach of a “decisive victory,” but the war’s results after three months fell far short of the declared objectives, after Washington failed to overthrow the Iranian regime, end its nuclear program, or neutralize its missile and drone capabilities.

He pointed out that the war cost the US Treasury about $29 billion without achieving clear strategic gains, considering that Tehran’s resilience alone was sufficient to foil the war’s objectives.

Hennigan noted that Iran retained about 70% of its missile stockpile until last May, while the political system continued to function after the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and his son Mojtaba Khamenei was quickly appointed as his successor.

He added that the war raised concerns among Washington’s regional allies about the viability of hosting American forces after their bases and facilities turned into direct targets for Iranian attacks.
He also pointed out that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth acknowledged that replenishing depleted military stockpiles could take months and possibly years, which the writer considered a dangerous indicator of the fragility of the American military-industrial base.

Hennigan warned that both China and Russia will read the war’s results as evidence of the decline of American deterrent capability, which may encourage Washington’s adversaries to test the limits of its influence in the future.
