Gaza is suffering from thirst

The Gaza Municipality announced that the city is suffering its worst water crisis in 1,000 days, with a 70% water deficit. Only 30,000 cubic meters of water are available daily, compared to an actual need of 100,000 cubic meters.

The municipality explained that 85% of the central wells have been destroyed, and 72 wells are out of service. In addition, more than 150,000 meters of water networks have been destroyed, and the main desalination plant, which used to cover 10% of the city’s needs, has ceased operations.

According to the statement, nearly one million residents and displaced persons are facing severe thirst, forcing them to wait for hours to obtain water. In many areas, the per capita share is only 10 to 20 liters per day, compared to the global minimum of 80-100 liters.

The municipality indicated that the shortage of fuel and spare parts threatens to shut down the remaining wells and pumping stations. It warned of the health and environmental risks resulting from the water scarcity and demanded the immediate entry of fuel and equipment and the rehabilitation of the infrastructure.
