Iranian Source Denies “Axios” Claims Regarding Hormuz

Iran’s “Tasnim” news agency quoted an informed source on Saturday as categorically denying what the “Axios” website reported regarding arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz.

Special Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The source affirmed that the strait lies within the territorial waters of both Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, and that any decision concerning its management is a sovereign matter that concerns only the two countries.

The source stressed that the future arrangements for the strait are determined according to Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which grants Iran the responsibility for establishing these arrangements in coordination and direct dialogue with the Sultanate of Oman.

The source added that Qatar’s participation in the consultations is limited to its role as a mediator to facilitate the exchange of views between Tehran and the region’s countries, denying that it has any role in making decisions related to the management of the strait.

The “Axios” website had previously reported information indicating that an Iranian-Omani statement was imminent, announcing what it described as a central corridor in the Strait of Hormuz for ship passage. This has been proven false through the Iranian denial as well as the impossibility of its application based on the views of experts and political analysts.
