Saudi Arabia expressed on Saturday its readiness to lift the siege on Sana’a International Airport, anticipating that Yemen would impose its lifting by force.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Riyadh pushed the Minister of Transport in the Aden government to present a new initiative.
Minister Mohsen Haidara stated in a statement that his government is ready to resume flights between Sana’a Airport and Queen Alia Airport in Jordan only, but he linked it to the necessity of subjecting those flights to the control of his government or what he described as “official authorities.”
Haidara’s offer came following the failure of Saudi threats to prevent Iranian aircraft from landing.
Riyadh had hinted through its loyal Presidential Council that it rejected any new flights, in addition to pushing for a Security Council session to discuss arrangements for opening the airport.
The Saudi offer came amid anticipation of the arrival of more flights between Tehran and Sana’a.
The aircraft carrying the Ansar Allah delegation that participated in the Supreme Leader’s funeral is expected to arrive in the coming days.
Saudi leaks revealed escalating fears within the Kingdom regarding Sana’a’s decision – which hinted at the military option in response to any escalation – to open the airport by force.
Saudi Arabia is trying to contain flights according to the terms of the truce, which is expected to have expanded the range of flights to include countries such as India, Egypt, and even Saudi Arabia.
Reducing flights to Amman airport is a futile attempt to absorb the momentum of the Yemeni escalation to fully open the airport.
