Tehran – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Tehran categorically denied on Saturday the validity of what was published by the American website “Axios.”
Iran’s “Tasnim” news agency quoted an informed source as saying that “the claims of the Axios website are unfounded, and we affirm that the Strait of Hormuz lies only within the scope of Iran’s and Oman’s internal and territorial waters.”
The source affirmed that “any decision regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz will be taken by the two riparian states, Iran and Oman.”
The source stressed that “decisions regarding the future arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz are taken according to Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” explaining that “according to Article 5 of the memorandum, it is Iran’s responsibility to determine the future arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz, and this is done through dialogue with Oman.”
He added that “Qatar’s presence in the discussions comes within the framework of its role as a mediator and to exchange views between Iran and the rest of the region’s countries.”
This firm Iranian affirmation comes at a time when the Revolutionary Guard Navy had earlier announced that “foreigners have no share in this land and in the Strait of Hormuz,” warning that “the adventures of the US army will put the interests of the countries benefiting from the Strait of Hormuz in real danger.”
Through this stance, Tehran consolidates its sovereignty over the strategic strait, rejecting any attempt to internationalize its management or involve external parties in its future arrangements.
