Regional and International Fears Over the Repercussions of Yemen’s Decision to Close Bab Al-Mandeb

Regional and international fears loomed on Wednesday over the repercussions of Yemen’s decision to close the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait, amid the widening scope of regional confrontations in light of the exchange of Yemeni-Saudi attacks against the backdrop of American escalation in Hormuz.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Western countries, led by the US, pushed for a draft resolution in the Security Council to extend reports on Yemeni operations against ships, a step that reveals anticipation of the return of confrontations to the Red Sea.

The Security Council resolution, which Russia and China abstained from supporting, also coincided with regional and international media highlighting the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz, whether in light of the recent escalation between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, or the confrontations in Hormuz; where US President Donald Trump announced the re-imposition of the blockade on Iran, amid the Iranian Revolutionary Guard hinting at closing other passages serving America and its allies, which those media considered a hint at Bab Al-Mandeb.

Bab Al-Mandeb is considered the last and most important outlet in the Middle East, specifically the oil region in the Gulf, as it has become Saudi Arabia’s window for exporting its oil with the halt of movement in Hormuz.

Previous American reports had revealed American fears of Yemen’s decision to close it and its impact on the global economy.
