In notable statements reflecting a change in the tone of official American discourse regarding tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, US Vice President J.D. Vance acknowledged the limitations of military options in dealing with the threats posed by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.

Vance affirmed in press statements that the “asymmetric” nature of Iranian threats in the vital waterway makes the military solution an unviable option, stressing that “the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz can only be resolved through the diplomatic path.”

In explaining the reasons for excluding the military option as a final solution, the US vice president clarified that Washington possesses the technical capability to bomb and destroy part of Iran’s capabilities, but he added: “Firing on ships in the strait is far too easy, and military action will not sustainably prevent these operations.”

Vance expressed frustration with political voices within the United States that reject any communication with Tehran, affirming that the geopolitical reality imposes greater realism, stating: “I am very frustrated with Americans who say you cannot negotiate with Iranians; you have to be ready to talk.”
