Yemeni Forces Begin Sorting Ships at Bab Al-Mandeb

The Yemeni Navy began on Tuesday the process of sorting ships transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as the decision to ban Saudi navigation came into effect.

Reuters news agency quoted sources as saying that the Sana’a Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center has sent messages to shipping companies containing transit arrangements through the vital Gulf strait.

Among the procedures is the ban on loading or unloading goods in Saudi ports.

The center warned, according to the agency, that violating ships could face consequences, including being targeted anywhere within the range of Yemeni operations.

Media reports had indicated that several ships have already begun responding to the Yemeni forces’ instructions.

The ships updated their information via the “AIS” tracking system, identifying the ships, the armed personnel on board, and their crew.

These developments come following Yemen’s announcement of the Saudi navigation ban in the Red Sea.

The ban came into effect on Monday evening, Sana’a time.

The ban also includes the passage of ships to Saudi ports, not just the passage of Saudi ships.
