Reuters: Yemeni Ban on Saudi Ports Threatens Global Oil and Drains American Military Capabilities

Current and former American officials have warned of the strategic repercussions of Sana’a forces’ decision to impose a naval blockade on Saudi ports, affirming that the step will disrupt oil exports and withhold an additional 7% of global crude supplies, while also placing increasing pressure on the US military if it intervenes in the Red Sea.

Reuters news agency stated in its analysis that confronting Sana’a forces represents a major challenge, given their combat experience, their ability to disrupt navigation, and their resilience against previous military campaigns led by Saudi Arabia and the United States.

The analysis indicated that any American intervention would lead to the depletion of military resources through their distribution between the Red Sea and the Gulf, with warships being transferred from the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, which would put pressure on ammunition stockpiles and air defense systems.

It added that American forces, despite possessing more than 20 warships and hundreds of aircraft in the region, face increasing operational constraints, including longer deployment periods for naval vessels, delayed maintenance, and the need to intensify intelligence efforts to keep pace with the development of Sana’a forces’ military capabilities compared to last year.
