Iran revealed its position on the Yemeni-Saudi developments on Saturday, coinciding with Saudi attempts to push it to play a new mediation role for de-escalation in Yemen.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi renewed his affirmation of the necessity of a diplomatic solution to what he described as the conflict in Yemen and Bab Al-Mandeb, affirming that it cannot be resolved militarily.
Araghchi called for adopting dialogue to address the crisis.
Araghchi’s statements, which were circulated by Iranian media, came as Saudi Arabia intensified its contacts through regional mediators to push Iran to play a role in de-escalation in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia pushed the Sultanate of Oman to enter the line through contacts made by its Foreign Minister with his Iranian counterpart earlier, following reports of the failure of Pakistani contacts with Tehran regarding diplomatic movement in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia is trying to exploit an agreement with Iran sponsored by China to pressure towards de-escalation in Yemen, which Sana’a refuses until now, as it insists on securing the full rights of the Yemeni people.
