Largest mass funeral in Gaza

Gaza City on Tuesday held an unprecedented mass funeral for 112 martyrs from two families, after their remains were recovered from under the rubble of their homes, destroyed by Israeli bombing during the genocidal war in the Sabra neighborhood, south of the city.

The funeral, in its scale and the number of victims, served as a stark reminder of one of the largest massacres targeting Palestinian families during the war.

An open square in the city was filled with dozens of martyrs’ bodies, wrapped in white shrouds and the Palestinian flag, lined up in a somber scene, as residents flocked to bid farewell to the victims who had been denied burial for many months. Cries of grief, chants of “Allahu Akbar,” and prayers filled the air as families stood before coffins containing the remains of their sons and relatives who had been trapped under the rubble since late 2023. The funeral procession followed the recovery of the bodies by civil defense and rescue teams after days of searching under challenging field conditions and with a severe shortage of equipment.
