The American magazine Foreign Policy stated on Wednesday that the recent escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Sana’a authority “Ansar Allah” was unnecessary and resulted from a miscalculation by Riyadh.

According to the magazine’s report, targeting Sana’a Airport, which triggered the conflict, with the aim of preventing the landing of a plane carrying a delegation returning from Iran was a step whose risks outweigh its gains.
It explained that even if the flight was considered a violation of international decisions, bombing the airport was not the logical choice, and Saudi Arabia could have overlooked the matter.
It added that Riyadh is waging the confrontation with Ansar Allah without actual Arab support, while neighboring countries have not initiated support, noting that most of them are unable to bear the consequences of the conflict.
The magazine considered that the administration of US President Donald Trump has further complicated the Saudi position, after linking nuclear cooperation with the Kingdom to normalization with the Israeli occupation entity, considering that Washington may withdraw from the confrontation with Iran and leave Riyadh to face its repercussions alone.
Foreign Policy concluded its report by saying that 2026 was a difficult year for Saudi Arabia, calling on Riyadh to reassess its regional policies and develop a deeper understanding of its strategic environment.
It pointed out that Riyadh’s reliance on buying loyalties or betting on American support is no longer sufficient to guarantee its interests.
