Saudi Arabia and the US agreed on Monday to return to diplomatic communications regarding Yemen, having reached the conviction that military escalation is impossible.

Western diplomatic sources reported that an intelligence assessment by both parties led to the necessity of containing the current escalation diplomatically, indicating that the parallel movement initiated by the American and Saudi ambassadors comes within attempts to reactivate regional mediation with Sana’a.

The ambassadors of Washington and Riyadh in Yemen had intensified their meetings in recent hours, especially with Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of the so-called Presidential Council.

Prominent in the ambassadors’ talks were their attempts to ascertain the status of the factions loyal to them in Yemen.

The diplomatic movement on the Yemen file came following powerful strikes directed by Sana’a forces at Saudi mobilizations in the east and west of Yemen.

Those factions were Saudi Arabia’s most prominent cards in Yemen.
