Tehran: Opening Hormuz is linked to achieving our conditions, and the Mecca agreement isn’t directed against Iran

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated on Monday that the matter of opening the Strait of Hormuz remains linked to current circumstances and developments, and to the conditions set by Tehran, indicating that his country does not consider the “Mecca” agreement to be directed against it.

Baghaei affirmed in a press conference that as long as the ongoing war continues, Iran will not allow passage through the strait.

He added that his country’s focus at present is primarily on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, not on resuming the negotiation path with the US.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman indicated that the ongoing talks and negotiations with the Sultanate of Oman focus on discussing and determining the maritime navigation route in the strait during the current phase.

In another context, Baghaei considered the joint defense agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan in Mecca days ago to reflect a decline in reliance on Washington, indicating that there is no reason to consider it directed against Iran.
