Targeting Sensitive Facilities in Yanbu

Reuters news agency reported that a wide-scale drone attack targeted facilities of the Saudi oil company Aramco in the city of Yanbu.

Reuters stated that “an air defense system operated by Greek military personnel in Saudi Arabia intercepted a number of drones on Thursday in the Yanbu area, which houses major oil refining facilities.”

It added that “a Greek Patriot battery dealt with the drones in coordination with Saudi air defense systems, firing three missiles, without clarifying the number of drones shot down or their source.”

It indicated that “Greece has deployed a US-made Patriot air defense battery, operated by Greek personnel, in Saudi Arabia since 2021 under an agreement aimed at helping protect the Kingdom’s energy facilities.”

Several weeks ago, Greek sources had revealed that an air defense system intercepted two missiles launched from Yemen targeting facilities in Yanbu. However, satellite images later showed that the missiles had hit their targets, as fires appeared at the targeted sites.
