The Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed details of the meeting that brought together Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the commander of US Central Command, Brad Cooper, in the middle of this month.
Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The channel stated that bin Salman asked Cooper for Washington to take over the management of the front against the Houthis in Yemen. However, America prefers to avoid opening an additional front in the region, and therefore the Saudi request was met with rejection.
According to the channel, Washington explained to bin Salman that America would support any Saudi military moves against Yemen.
According to the channel, the Saudi request to America reflects the Kingdom’s desire to avoid engaging in the “Yemeni quagmire,” in light of its previous experience. In contrast, the American refusal reflects Washington’s unwillingness to lead an additional combat front in the Middle East.
