The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) called on Monday for the urgent entry of large quantities of engine oil, fuel, and essential equipment to ensure the operation, repair, and rehabilitation of water systems in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on its X platform, UNICEF explained that trucking in drinking water provides water to approximately 150,000 people in Gaza City each month, including many children.
While trucking saves lives, it is not a sustainable solution. UNICEF stressed that rehabilitating water systems is the only permanent solution to provide water for the population.
With American and European support, the Israeli army has committed genocide, siege, and starvation in the Gaza Strip for over two years, since October 7, 2013. This has resulted in the deaths of 73,456 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and injuries to 174,496 others to date—a toll that is not yet final, as thousands of victims remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, inaccessible to rescue teams.
