UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that Israel has killed more than 1,300 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire agreement of October 2015, through daily attacks, despite the agreement having been in effect for nearly a year.
He made these remarks on Monday during the opening of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council at the organization’s office in Geneva.
Türk added that Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, expressing his “dismay” at Israeli proposals aimed at displacing all Palestinians from the Strip.
The UN official also criticized the “continued inhumane rhetoric” of some Israeli officials regarding Palestinians.
He pointed out that Israel continues its annexation activities in the occupied West Bank despite a clear ruling from the International Court of Justice, calling on states to take action to prevent the entrenchment of the occupation of the land designated for Palestinians under a two-state solution.
Türk also called on states to halt arms exports to Israel, urging companies to end business practices that support Israeli settlements.
