The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip confirmed today that the Israeli occupation is practicing a policy of “silent starvation” against the residents of the Strip, preventing the entry of 65 percent of the required food supplies, leaving more than 90 percent of the population unable to purchase food.
In a press statement, the office explained that the occupation is implementing what it called “engineering starvation,” preventing the entry of humanitarian aid except in very small quantities that do not meet the minimum needs of the escalating crisis. It noted that more than 95 percent of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have become entirely dependent on aid, while more than 90 percent have completely lost their purchasing power, making them reliant on minimal assistance to survive.
The statement emphasized that the occupation is deliberately preventing the entry of hundreds of thousands of truckloads of aid in a systematic starvation tactic, as what is allowed in does not exceed 35 percent of what was agreed upon. The office revealed shocking figures reflecting the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe and Israeli intransigence. It explained that in the 330 days since the ceasefire agreement was signed, the occupation authorities have allowed only 69,387 aid and food trucks to pass through, out of the 198,000 trucks that were supposed to enter under the agreement.
The office condemned the policy of starvation being practiced against the Palestinian people, holding the Israeli occupation and its supporting countries fully responsible for this systematic starvation. It called on international institutions and organizations to clarify the reality of this crime to global public opinion and reveal the dimensions of the catastrophe.
The office also issued an urgent appeal to the international community, the Security Council, the mediators, and the sponsors of the ceasefire agreement to exert immediate and genuine pressure on the occupation to force it to cease its starvation policy and adhere to the signed agreement to guarantee the flow of food and aid trucks.
