The Saudi Press Agency “SPA” reported on Friday evening, citing a source in the Saudi Ministry of Energy, that the East-West pipeline, extending between Riyadh and Medina, was subjected to targeting on Thursday morning.

The source confirmed the precautionary suspension of work on the pipeline, while Saudi authorities did not indicate the party responsible for the targeting. Observers suggest the source is Yemen, given its coincidence with the escalation and Saudi raids that targeted several Yemeni governorates.
CNN had quoted two American officials familiar with the matter as confirming that a major oil pipeline network in Saudi Arabia was subjected to strikes on Thursday.
One official told the network that a preliminary analysis showed that pumping stations located next to the pipeline itself were bombed.
He indicated that a satellite image taken on Friday showed traces of severe damage caused by a fire at one of the pumping stations, while another image of a second pumping station, taken on Thursday, showed a small fire with thick black smoke rising from it.
Reports from websites specialized in energy affairs had monitored on Thursday evening the extension of rising smoke from the main East-West pipeline over a distance estimated at about 80 kilometers.
They considered this a dangerous indicator suggesting a new Yemeni attack targeting the Kingdom’s energy infrastructure.
The extension of smoke for tens of kilometers along the oil pipeline route raised a wave of questions and doubts among observers and experts regarding the true scale of the fire.
