Saudi Arabia Investigates the Gaps in Its Air Defenses and Reports Reveal the Depletion of Interceptor Missiles

Follow-ups — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The Saudi air defense system faces questions about its ability to counter the attacks coming from Yemen, as the Associated Press agency quoted regional officials that Riyadh has begun an investigation to determine the reasons for the failure of its defenses to intercept the missiles and drones.

This coincides with a series of attacks that hit strategic sites in the Kingdom during the past weeks, amid repercussions that extended to aviation movement and oil facilities.

The targeted sites included King Khalid airports in Riyadh, Abha, and Dammam, the Aramco refineries in Rabigh and Riyadh, the Khurais area, along with the East-West pipeline and the second pumping station.

The attacks also caused fires and the disruption of production lines and the disruption of air navigation, with the cancellation of more than a thousand flights.

In another indication of the pressures facing the defense system, the Wall Street Journal mentioned, citing Saudi officials, that the stockpile of interceptor missiles has begun to decrease with the continuation of the attacks.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation also acknowledged the killing of three residents and the wounding of 36 others in the attacks on King Khalid and Abha airports, while the Sana’a forces continue their operations against the Saudi airports and vital facilities, under the slogan “airport for airport, siege for siege, and escalation for escalation.”
