Al-Qaeda Attack Targets Headquarters of STC in Abyan

Violent explosions rocked the vicinity of one of the headquarters of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia in Abyan province, southern Yemen, YPA reported on Saturday.

The explosions, believed to be resulting from an attack by the Al-Qaeda militants, occurred in the vicinity of the headquarters of the so-called “security belt” near the electricity office in Lauder district, east of Abyan, followed by violent clashes.

The sources said that the clashes took place with light weapons and lasted for about half an hour, followed by the deployment of security belt patrols in the city’s streets.

The clashes in Abyan come hours after Al-Qaeda militants attacked the security belt camp in ‘Hakoula’ area, north of Dhalea city.
