Britain: Gaza famine is man-made

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the famine in Gaza is “man-made,” referring to the systematic starvation imposed by Tel Aviv on the Palestinians. He expressed his outrage at the Israeli government’s refusal to allow aid into the Strip.

In a speech during a session of the British Parliament on Monday, Lammy stressed the need for a comprehensive humanitarian response to prevent further death in the besieged Gaza Strip.

He added, “This is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government’s refusal to allow adequate aid into the Strip is outrageous.”

Lammy warned that the famine in Gaza could worsen if necessary action is not taken, noting that more than 300 people, including 119 children, have died from malnutrition since July 1.

Lammy announced that his country would provide an additional £15 million in aid and medical care to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He also noted that he is working to bring more wounded and critically ill children from Gaza to Britain for treatment.

He stressed that if no progress is made on a ceasefire in Gaza, Britain will take steps to recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly this September.
