Lebanon: Israeli forces infiltrate at dawn

An Israeli army force entered southern Lebanon early Thursday morning, killing a municipal employee inside a building in what the Lebanese National News Agency described as an “unprecedented incident” and the latest violation of the ceasefire.

The agency reported: “In a serious and unprecedented attack, an Israeli enemy force entered the town of Blida at approximately 1:30 a.m. (23:30 GMT).”

It added that the force advanced “more than 1,000 meters from the border, supported by military vehicles and ATVs,” which are all-terrain vehicles.

“The force stormed the Blida municipality building, where municipal employee Ibrahim Salameh was sleeping. The enemy soldiers then proceeded to kill him,” the agency stated.

It continued, saying that during the operation, “residents reported hearing screams and cries for help coming from the building. The incursion continued until 4:00 a.m. (02:00 GMT), before the attacking force withdrew.”

Following the Israeli withdrawal, “the Lebanese army entered the building, and the body of martyr Salameh was transported to the hospital with the assistance of the Lebanese Civil Defense,” according to the agency.

As of 6:30 GMT, no official Israeli statement had been issued on the matter.

Israel killed more than 4,000 people and wounded approximately 17,000 during its offensive against Lebanon, which began in October 2013 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2014.
