A senior Israeli security official stated that Israel is now trapped in a strategic predicament in southern Lebanon, given its ongoing operations and clashes with Hezbollah.
The official explained that Israel cannot “stop and withdraw from southern Lebanon, as that would be an admission of defeat. On the other hand, we cannot advance or take the initiative because US President Donald Trump is holding us back,” according to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom.
The newspaper further explained that Israel’s predicament stems primarily from its forces’ inability to counter drones. It noted that senior Israeli security officials acknowledge that the entire region is closely monitoring Hezbollah’s success in operating this type of aircraft.
Hezbollah has recently begun relying on explosive-laden drones controlled via thin, almost invisible fiber optic cables, making them less vulnerable to the electronic jamming Israel employs against conventional aircraft. On a daily basis, the Israeli army acknowledges that soldiers, including some in serious condition, have been injured as a result of drones falling and exploding in the areas where its forces have infiltrated into southern Lebanon, while recently it announced the death of at least one soldier as a result of a booby-trapped drone explosion.
