The attack on Buqayq paralyzes the world’s largest oil processing facility

Saudi Aramco announced the suspension of operations at the Buqayq refinery following the attack targeting the facility today, a development reflecting the scale of damage to the world’s largest oil refinery.

Satellite images taken after the attack showed extensive fire damage inside the complex, with four out of six main crude oil processing units damaged, while two units appeared completely out of service. Fire suppression foam was visible covering parts of one of the damaged units, indicating significant operational damage to the facility.

The Buqayq refinery is a vital facility in Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure, processing crude oil from the giant Ghawar field before it is transported to export terminals west and east.

Sana’a forces had earlier announced targeting oil supply lines from eastern Saudi Arabia to Yanbu port, in response to the breach of Yemeni airspace by drones belonging to the Saudi regime.

This attack comes days after the targeting of Aramco facilities in Jizan and Yanbu, within the framework of the “escalation-for-escalation” and “siege-for-siege” equations announced by Sana’a in response to the continued aggression and siege on Yemen, an escalation reflecting the expansion of Yemeni operations to target vital infrastructure in the Saudi depth.
