New American admission of losses in the war with Iran

The Pentagon revealed in new statistics an increase in the toll of American losses from the war with Iran, an implicit acknowledgment of the scale of the painful Iranian strikes that targeted American bases in the region.

The US Department of Defense “Pentagon” announced an update to the loss statistics in the ongoing war with Iran, bringing the cumulative toll to 18 dead and 624 wounded among American soldiers since the start of military operations on February 28.

The update made by the Pentagon to the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) showed an increase of 142 new injuries compared to previously published figures, following sharp criticism of downplaying the scale of losses.

The Department of Defense attributed this change to adopting a new method for calculating injuries, creating a separate page titled “External Operations” containing losses recorded since July 7, after the truce collapsed and escalation returned, alongside the main page containing the toll from the first phase of the war.

Media sources revealed that the latest revision re-recorded the deaths of 4 soldiers who had previously been removed from the list of killed, raising the total number of deaths to 18.

The new statistics included the deaths of two soldiers in an Iranian missile attack on a base in Jordan last week, in addition to a fourth killed in an Iranian drone explosion in northern Iraq.

However, observers and military analysts indicate that the figures published by the Pentagon do not reflect the true scale of American losses, amid clear secrecy by Washington regarding the actual number of dead and wounded, especially given the continuation of Iranian operations targeting American bases in the region, making the actual toll much higher than what the US Department of Defense announces, in an attempt to avoid political and military embarrassment before domestic and international public opinion.
