The Palestinian Ministry of Health affirmed that the health sector in the State of Palestine is going through its most critical phase in history, given the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, the escalating attacks by the occupation and settlers in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the severe financial crisis facing the government as a result of the Israeli government’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
In a statement issued Saturday and reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), the Ministry indicated that the health system in the Gaza Strip continues to operate under extremely harsh humanitarian and health conditions, amidst the repeated targeting of hospitals and health centers and the acute shortage of medicines, medical supplies, and fuel. This threatens the ability of health facilities to continue providing life-saving services and exacerbates the suffering of thousands of patients and wounded individuals.
The Ministry renewed its urgent appeal to the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all humanitarian organizations and influential countries to take immediate action and pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to ensure the urgent and regular entry of medicines, medical supplies, fuel and humanitarian aid to Gaza, and to open safe humanitarian corridors that guarantee the arrival of medical supplies, patients and the wounded without hindrance or delay, and to stop the violations against the Palestinian health sector, in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.
