Civil Defense teams in the Gaza Strip conducted a field visit to inspect eight completely destroyed homes, where the remains of approximately 170 martyrs are believed to be buried under the rubble. This visit is part of the ongoing “Recovering Martyrs from Under the Rubble” project, which aims to address the aftermath of the destruction and retrieve the victims’ remains.
In a statement released Thursday evening, the Civil Defense reported that several officials participated in the field visit, including the project’s executive supervisor, Colonel Muhammad Abu Dan, the official responsible for liaising with international organizations regarding the recovery of martyrs, Colonel Ahmed Al-Sarhi, and the safety and prevention engineer, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Helles.
The statement explained that the team closely examined the extent of the damage to the eight buildings and analyzed the nature of the rubble and debris to identify the challenges on the ground and determine the safest ways to access the sites.
According to the Civil Defense statement, participants emphasized that this inspection is part of the technical and engineering coordination efforts to prioritize interventions and provide the necessary equipment to begin search and recovery operations, despite the significant difficulties and limited resources.
He noted that the field teams are continuing their work within the project to extract all the remains of the martyrs and hand them over to arrange dignified burial procedures.
