Fearful of Sana’a’s punishment, Egypt strongly denies connection to the ship bombed in Al-Mokha

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport declared its non-responsibility for the ship “TIHAMA,” which was targeted in Al-Mokha port, affirming that the ship flies the Tanzanian flag and is owned by a Yemeni individual, while being operated by “Blue Sea Management Marine” company through its Dubai branch, and is not linked to licenses or registrations with the Egyptian maritime transport sector.

The ministry stated that the ship has never entered Egyptian waters, was not heading to Egypt, and does not carry goods belonging to Egyptians. This statement came in response to reports and posts that confirmed a close link between the ship and an address for the operating company in the city of Alexandria.

The Egyptian denial comes out of Cairo’s fear of the consequences of the Yemeni response in Sana’a, as the ship was carrying weapons and military equipment on board. The statement also comes at a time of heightened sensitivity regarding ship movement off the Yemeni coast, with Sana’a’s warnings about the consequences of any connection to ships or shipments that could fall within its declared targets.
