Civil defense teams in the Gaza Strip recovered the remains of 17 martyrs on Sunday from under the rubble of homes destroyed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza and Central governorates, as part of ongoing search operations for martyrs and missing persons.
According to the daily briefing on the recovery of martyrs’ bodies issued by the Civil Defense Media Office in the Gaza Strip, 16 martyrs were recovered from under the rubble of homes in the Zeitoun and Yarmouk neighborhoods of Gaza City, while one martyr was recovered from the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
Search and recovery operations continue in various areas of the Gaza Strip, amidst significant difficulties faced by the teams due to the scale of the destruction, the shortage of heavy equipment and fuel, and the continued presence of a large number of missing persons under the rubble.
Earlier, Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal confirmed that more than 8,000 bodies remain under the rubble due to a shortage of heavy equipment and fuel needed for search and rescue operations, while the government media office reported that the number of missing persons has exceeded 9,500 since the beginning of the war.
