Saudi Arabia prepares for a complete halt in oil exports as its stockpile runs out

International media revealed on Sunday a dangerous situation for Saudi Arabia as its oil stockpile nears depletion.

Reuters quoted sources as saying that Saudi Arabia’s stockpile at ports is only sufficient for 5 days, considering that a halt in exports threatens the loss of 4% of the volume of energy supplies to the global market.

The British agency reported that Saudi Arabia has not provided any details about the extent of damage to the oil pipeline between its ports in the Gulf and the Red Sea, known as the “East-West” pipeline.

It also did not clarify how long the repair would take.

The pipeline was subjected to a major strike at the control center in Medina last Friday.

Saudi Arabia had relied on the pipeline to export approximately 5-7 million barrels of oil per day as its exports through the Gulf halted due to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

New images broadcast by satellites showed the continued heavy oil leakage in addition to smoke columns rising from the attack site.

Saudi Arabia had already announced earlier the suspension of oil transport through the pipeline without specifying its duration.

Yemeni forces had launched a series of strikes in recent weeks against Saudi facilities, foremost among them the “East-West” pipeline.
