Middle East Eye: The Escalation of the War Between Yemen and Saudi Arabia Confirms the Death of the American savior

Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The magazine “Middle East Eye” published an analytical article by writer Trita Parsi, addressing the profound transformations in the regional security landscape, considering that the idea of relying on an “American savior” has completely ended after Washington’s handling of the recent developments between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

The article explained that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman once again found himself in the same position regarding reliance on the support of US President Donald Trump, indicating that Trump limited himself to providing intelligence assistance and target identification and refused to launch direct strikes, similar to what happened after the Abqaiq and Khurais attacks in 2019.

It pointed out that this repetition confirms that the prevailing assumption in Riyadh and Gulf capitals that Washington will come to the rescue in times of major crises is a wrong assumption, and that the old American security system in the Middle East has died, and pretending otherwise has become a real danger to the region’s security.

The article clarified that the American military bases in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries didn’t prevent the war and didn’t constitute a deterrent to Iran, but rather turned into sources of insecurity and magnets for attacks, which was also confirmed by former CIA director David Petraeus when he admitted that those bases are no longer viable due to the severe damage they sustained as a result of Iranian strikes.

It noted that the collapse of the old order based on excluding Iran and forming regional blocs represents a golden opportunity to formulate a new system based on comprehensive and collective security, in which all regional powers assume the primary responsibility for managing their differences through permanent and independent institutions.
