CNN reveals the “paratrooper landing lie” promoted by Saudi Media… What are its details?

CNN stated that a video clip spread on social media, promoted by media platforms and activists loyal to Saudi Arabia, allegedly showing an airborne landing operation on the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, coinciding with the recent military tensions in Yemen.

The video shows a helicopter lowering soldiers rapidly by ropes onto the roof of a building at night. Those who circulated the clip claimed it documents a landing operation by “Saudi Special Forces” on Sana’a.

The network explained that the video was accompanied by comments, including one saying: “I don’t know how accurate the clip is. But may God protect every one of our soldiers, grant them success, and guide their aim.” Another comment said: “Sometimes the world wakes up to a new reality created while everyone was asleep.. and whoever thinks Saudi Arabia is incapable of reaching or executing should recheck his calculations well.. for when the time for action comes, talk is over, and the result alone remains the message.”

It noted that the video achieved wide rounds of circulation and interaction, with total views on the X platform alone exceeding 800,000.

CNN Arabic’s verification revealed that the video is old, dating back to training exercises for US Army Special Operations Forces, and isn’t related to the military escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen.

A reverse search for the video showed a version of it published on the account of an American photographer named Gabriel Babon, dated June 5, 2026.

The photographer said the footage shows the “160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Night Stalkers) carrying out guard duties in the neighborhood.”

Reports from local news sites indicated that on June 3 and 4, the “Night Stalkers” conducted training at the abandoned St. Luke’s Medical Center in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California.

A similar clip is available on an X account in the same time frame. The video resurfaced again through social networks amid circulated reports claiming “a Saudi airborne landing” over Sana’a two days ago.
