Haaretz: Sana’a Forces Imposed a New Reality and Surprised Israeli and American Intelligence

The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, in an analysis by writer Robert Worth, believes that Sana’a forces have succeeded through a series of rapid advances in imposing a new reality in the region, noting that they do not necessarily act as a tool for Tehran but sometimes take positions that conflict with its objectives.

The analysis affirmed that controlling the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait granted Sana’a forces a strategic pressure card, while their primary goal has become to secure recognition as the legitimate ruler in Yemen.

The analysis indicated that Sana’a forces surprised intelligence assessments in Israel, the US, and the region after their rapid control of the western coast, Al-Mokha, and Perim Island.

It considered that their strength cannot be measured by appearance or stereotypical impressions of them.

It noted that Saudi Arabia practically tested the difficulty of war in Yemen, after the confrontation exhausted it for seven years before the ceasefire in 2022.

It described the war as the worst military and political defeat for Mohammed bin Salman.

According to the analysis, “Sana’a forces, unlike Hezbollah and Iraqi factions, don’t economically depend on Iran, and they manufacture a large part of their weapons locally.”

It considered that their attacks on Saudi Arabia and their naval blockade of it reflect a special scope of influence that goes beyond the Iranian agenda.

Worth concluded that Sana’a’s conditions have come to transcend tactical demands to seeking recognition as the legitimate ruler, opening airspace, and new governance arrangements.

He considered that a wide-scale military option against them does not seem realistic in light of previous war experiences.
