UNICEF says four out of five families in Lebanon are struggling to meet their basic needs, as the ongoing conflict exacerbates a years-long economic crisis, pushing children toward hunger, out of school, and into the labor market, warning of the potentially devastating consequences for an entire generation.
Around 22% of families surveyed for a UNICEF report titled “A Continuing Nightmare” reported that their children had gone to bed hungry in the past two weeks.
31% of families said their children were denied necessary healthcare because they could not afford it. Additionally, 14% of families reported having at least one working child, more than double the figure recorded in January 2025.
UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Marco Luigi Corsi, stressed that children and young people in the country are “being asked to bear a burden no child should have to carry,” adding that families are being “pushed to the brink of collapse.”
