Renewed Explosions in the Saudi Capital and Its International Airport Exits International Safety Classifications

New explosions resounded, on Wednesday evening, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. This comes with the continuation of the Yemeni operations in response to the escalation in Yemen.

Exclusive — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Saudi media platforms reported that powerful explosions resounded a short while ago throughout Riyadh.

The details of the explosion have not yet become clear.

The Saudi capital has been subjected for days to repeated attacks throughout the day.

The coalition spokesman, Turki Al-Maliki, had affirmed earlier today that Riyadh was subjected to an attack with missiles and drones.

Riyadh is one of several Saudi cities in the south and center of the Kingdom that are subjected to targetings.

Although the majority of the attacks hit vital and important oil facilities such as refineries, depots, and oil ports, the latest attacks are focused primarily on paralyzing the navigational movement at the Kingdom’s international airports.

Yemen has indeed succeeded in closing many airports in southern Saudi Arabia, with the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation announcing the closure of Jizan and Najran airports, but it continues to target the rest of the airports within a new equation it recently announced through the Humanitarian Affairs Coordination Center, aimed at paralyzing the navigational movement in Saudi airspace.

In the same context, King Khalid Airport, the largest and most important Saudi airport in the capital Riyadh, declined in international classifications in terms of safety, in a remarkable shift in the position of the Saudi airports that had enjoyed safety even at the peak of the war on Iran.

The Flightradar website, specialized in monitoring air navigation, classified the airport as among the most disrupted airports in the world.

The airport is currently placed in second rank, according to the website.

The airport has witnessed during the recent days unprecedented disruptions that included the suspension of flights and the postponement of others, in addition to the diversion of aircraft routes and closure for hours.

The airport is one of several airports that Yemen is targeting in the operation of imposing the air ban.
